DEPARTMENT in Málaga

Malaga is full of sun, sea, sardines and flamenco days. However, we can also boldly call the Cathedral of the Incarnation as a symbol of Malaga

(Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Encarnación), which proudly towers over all the city's buildings.

The cathedral was built between the 16th and 18th centuries according to the plans  Diego de Siloé

at the site of the main mosque of Malaga. She was affectionately named   "La Manquita" which loosely translated means "one-armed lady". The original design involved the construction of two towers, but the lack of funds prevented its expansion and the work has not been continued to this day.  Nevertheless, the Catedral is the tallest structure in Málaga, and the city's development plans prohibit the construction of buildings higher than it.

From an architectural point of view, the building of the Renaissance temple is a real combination of styles - from the Gothic outlined in the northern gate (Portada de Iglesia del Sagrario), through the Renaissance in the interiors, to the late Baroque, which is visible in the decoration of the lintels and the main facade. Particularly noteworthy are the baroque organ and the 17th-century choir, where

40 of the 58 wooden figures were made by the famous sculptor

Pedro de Mena.  In turn, in the treasury, you can see a painting by Luis Morales, Our Lady of Sorrows.

The cathedral can be visited from Monday to Saturday, ticket price is 5 euro,

students 3 euro.  However, I suggest going to the temple on Sundays for one of the Spanish masses, which may turn out to be not only an interesting cultural experience, but also  spiritual, not to mention a few pennies saved;)

The Catedral de Málaga can be found on Calle Street  Molina Lario 9. Map here.

However, being in the city center, it is hard not to notice it, regardless of the point where you will find yourself :)
