Jardín Botánico

-Histórico La Concepción

If you are looking for a place for a longer walk or a respite among the shadows of tropical trees, the Botanical Garden will be the perfect place.

Country estate  Finca de la Concepción is one of the most beautiful

and the most important tropical and subtropical gardens in Spain and one of the most valued in all of Europe. Approx.

1855 by the marquis  Casa Loring,  a few years later expanded by other owners  the Echevarría family.  In 1943, the garden was officially declared a Historic Artistic Garden, now considered a site of cultural importance. Then  in the spring of 1990 it became the property of the Council of Malaga, which bought it out in favor  600 million pesetas was after renovation  in 1994, re-open it  for the audience.

The entire property covers an area of 23 hectares, of which 3 hectares are recognized as the historical garden they create  fountains and waterfalls  coupled with a beautiful selection of subtropical plants from all over the world.

Is located  here, more than 25,000 plants belong to some 2,000 different species, 90 of which are palm trees, 200 are native plants, and the rest are tropical and subtropical.  Around the Historical Garden, we can find the Botanical Garden, which includes a set of plant collections  scientifically organized, which can be visited at approx  themed routes.

The garden also hides a few  buildings:  Casa-Palacio (Palace House) and Casa del Administrador (Administrator's House), in turn, there are several smaller buildings around the garden  such as Antigua Escuelita (old school), la Casita del Jardinero (House of the Gardener), known as Casita de los Cipreses (House of Cypresses), Museo Loringiano (Loringiano Museum) where  there are archaeological finds, and a dome with a panoramic view  city views.

The Botanical Garden is located at  Camino del Jardín Botánico  3.  You can get there by bus number 2 (last stop, then you have to walk a bit) or I suggest you go by bike.

The garden is open:

from April 1 to September 20: 9:30 - 19:30

from October 1 to March 21: 9.30am - 4.30pm

Closed on Mondays, December 25 and January 1

For me, the garden is not only rich in flora, but also a historical place that reminds me of the atmosphere from the films showing  colonial empire  Spain. This house, this vegetation, romantic nooks and crannies, it all hides a story that is worth seeing with your own eyes :)
