Ronda

Ronda, known as the "white city",  is one of the most interesting places in Andalusia, which cannot be missed while visiting the Costa del Sol.

 

A city located in the province of Málaga  is one of the oldest in Spain,

and thanks to its location it was  at one time an ideal fortress, acting

capitals  the Islamic kingdom until 1485.

 

Unusual  Rondo provides picturesque scenery  her  position on both sides  rocky gorge of the river Geadalevin, called  El Taji. 

180 meters deep and 90 meters wide  divides the city into two parts -  from the south to the earlier Arabic old town - Ciudad, and from the north to the Mercadillo district founded by Christians. Their bands  combines extraordinary and truly impressive  The 100-meter-long arched "new bridge" Puente Nuevo, built in the 18th century. Under its central span there is a room (now a tourist information office) used in the old days  as a prison  from which  escape seemed impossible.  See up close here ;)

 

Moreover, in  In the Christian district of Mercadillo there is the most famous building next to Puente Nuevo  the bullfighting arena of the Real Maestranza de Caballería. This is one of the oldest Plaza de Toros  in Spain, which states  the cradle  bullfight, because it  here  arose  the contemporary rules of this show that are valid until today.

 

Other attractions of the city include the well-preserved Arab Baths (Banos Arabes) and the well-built one  in 1314  residence of the Moorish king  Palacio de Mondragon.  

 

Ronda is only about 100 km from Málaga to which  you can go on a day trip by train for the price of 22, 80  euro return ( departure at 10.05, return 16.50) - you can buy tickets  right here .
