I do not know a more "loose" place in Andalusia, with such great surfeski climate and of course so windy;) I'm talking about Tarifa, of course, a Mecca for lovers windsurfing and kitesurfing.
It is remarkable for several reasons. First, it is the most advanced south city of continental Europe. Secondly, it is from here, with good visibility, that you can see it far away only 20 km from Africa. Thirdly, it is here, when you look at another continent, which you have the impression of being at your fingertips, on the left you are surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, on the right the Atlantic Ocean ... a miracle! It could be exchanged for a long time, it is certainly also unique due to its climate.
Here the rest of the world does not exist - what counts is waves, sun, kite and refreshing drinks in the evening. You won't find and feel it anywhere else in Andalucia.
These areas were already known in the times of the Phoenicians or Romans (of which the best example is Claudia Baleo 20 km away), but the name of the city comes from
from Tarifa Ibn Malik who came here in 710, who together with his armed forces conquered the city, starting the almost six hundred-year reign of Muslims
in this area. The legacy of their long presence is lifted up in the 10th century Castle of Guzman the Good (Castillo Guzman el Bueno), which can still be visited today. In addition, it is worth seeing the fortified gate Puerta de Jerez and the adjacent to it The 15th century church of San Mateo (Iglesia de San Mateo, San Mateo Square).
What's more, in the city center, it is worth simply getting lost between the white houses, squares and winding streets. An additional attraction can also be boat trips, from which you can observe dolphins and whales, or cruises to the Spanish Ceuta and Moroccan Tangier.
After all, the greatest treasure of Tarifa is the nearby nature and beaches undeveloped with blocks of flats or hotels. Main Beach in Tarifa, Fr. length a trifle of 7250 m and a width of 120 m is Playa de Los Lances and exactly that the best infrastructure for sunbathers and water sports is located next to it. Playa Valdevaqueros, Playa Arte Vida and Playa Hurricane this dream beaches for windsurfers and kitesurfers.
From a distant one 10 km away and the quiet beach of Playa Punta Paloma you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city, while Playa de Bolonia is 25 km away (my favorite) it is considered one Spain's last pristine beaches.
Tarifa is 160 km from Málaga and is best accessible by car. It will surely be a valuable stopover after the popular Gibraltar among our countrymen. It is perfect for a weekend in a van or a Kampere (I checked myself :) because only here in the morning you will be woken up by the sound of the ocean.
Believe me, I will enchant you! :)
